4,000 Trucks Set to Bring Humanitarian Aid to Gaza

Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), has confirmed that 4,000 trucks filled with vital humanitarian aid are ready to enter Gaza. This aid includes essential supplies, with half of the trucks carrying food and flour to help address the growing needs of the population.

Lazzarini noted that once the ceasefire holds and humanitarian aid begins to flow into Gaza, attacks on aid convoys may decrease, providing a safer environment for those delivering critical supplies. Despite the challenges, UNRWA remains committed to its mission and will continue operations in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. This comes even as a potential Israeli-imposed ban on the agency's activities is set to take effect on January 30, 2025.

UNRWA plays a vital role in providing essential healthcare and education services, particularly in Gaza, where it is the only agency capable of delivering these crucial services to the population.

In a related development, Rik Peeperkorn, the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the occupied Palestinian territories, announced plans to deploy an unspecified number of field hospitals in Gaza. This initiative is part of efforts to support the severely impacted healthcare sector, which has been stretched to its limits due to the ongoing crisis. Over the next two months, these field hospitals will provide much-needed medical care to the people of Gaza.

As the situation continues to evolve, the international community remains focused on delivering critical aid to Gaza and supporting the healthcare infrastructure in the region.
