36 Films to Compete in 2nd Sharqiyah International Film Festival

The upcoming 2nd Sharqiyah International Film Festival, set to unfold in Sur on January 11, has officially selected 36 films to compete across diverse categories. Organizers confirmed the meticulous selection process, where acclaimed film critics curated these films from a pool of 255 entries representing 35 nations.
Celebrating Cinematic Diversity
Out of the chosen films, 16 hailed from Omani creators, a testament to the pride felt by the Omani Film Society (OFS) and Oman Theatre Society (OTS), who are orchestrating the event. This achievement stands alongside the 20 international entries, marking a momentous cultural exchange through cinema.

Jury and Star-Studded Presence
The festival's jury boasts notable members: Walid Ahmed Darwish from Syria heads the committee, with Dr. Hossam al Din Mustafa Dagher from Egypt and Oman's Khamis al Rawahi as members. Additionally, the festival will host prominent actors from Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates.

Award Categories and Recognition
Anwar al Ruzaiqi, the festival's director, Ruzaiqi detailed the festival's 12 awards spanning six categories, recognizing the best in Omani and international narrative, short documentary, and animation films. The accolades aim to spotlight exceptional storytelling and creativity.
