The Oman Hockey Association (OHA) has revealed plans to construct a new stadium in Al Amerat, which will be a significant boost to the promotion of hockey in Oman. The stadium will host the first-ever FIH Hockey 5s World Cup in 2024. The new stadium will be located next to the Oman Cricket Academy Grounds and in close proximity to the Al Amerat Club.
Dr Marwan Juma al Juma, the chairman of the Oman Hockey Association, confirmed that the new stadium in Al Amerat will be the venue for the first-ever FIH Hockey5s World Cups for both men and women in January 2024.
Initially, the Hockey 5s World Cup was scheduled to take place at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, and plans for the expansion of the hockey arena at the complex had been approved. However, plans were changed to benefit the game of hockey.
The new stadium in Al Amerat will have a full-fledged hockey pitch and a five-a-side pitch with a capacity of 5,500 seats for the Hockey 5s World Cup. The venue will also include a second full-fledged floodlit astro-turf pitch after the event, making it suitable for hosting larger tournaments and international camps. The state-of-the-art hockey arena will be a significant development in promoting hockey in Oman.
