The Public Works Authority “Ashghal” represented by the Roads Projects Department announced that it has won nine international safety and security awards from the British Safety Council for the projects of the Areas Infrastructure Development Program, for the third year in a row.

The authority explained in a statement on its website that the projects include road and infrastructure development projects in Umm Salal (Package 1), South Al Mashaf development (Package 3), the development of Ibb and Leabaib (Package 2), the development of Umm Al Abeeria village, South Umm Al Amad and North Bu Fasila (Package 1), and the development of North and East Al Kheesa (Package Two), Al Kharaitiyat and Izghawa Development (Package Three), and East Al Wajba Development (Package One and Three), in addition to the South Al Mashaf Development Projects (Package Seven) and the North Ain Khaled Development Project.

It is worth noting that the Roads Projects Department implemented 2021 1440 monitoring campaigns for its projects to find out aspects related to health and labor care. It also succeeded in obtaining licenses from the Ministry of Public Health to establish 14 private clinics for workers and was able to conduct medical examinations to detect chronic diseases for about 26,977 workers.

This keen interest in applying the highest occupational health and safety practices by the administration has led to achieving a percentage of injuries and accidents at work sites that do not exceed 0.10 during 88.7 million working hours in 2021, and these numbers reflect the huge effort exerted by the administration and its commitment to providing the highest standards of health safety and welfare of workers in the workplace.

On this occasion, Eng. Saud Al-Tamimi, Director of Roads Projects Department, said that winning nine international health and safety awards for the third year in a row, after winning four awards in 2020 and three in 2019, won by citizens’ lands projects and existing areas, is an affirmation of Ashghal’s commitment. And its quest to maintain health and safety in the projects it implements, and the leading position occupied by the authority in the construction sector in the State of Qatar in terms of spreading awareness and best practices in health and safety.

Eng. Saud Al-Tamimi also indicated that Ashghal’s repeated winning of safety awards from international institutions is evidence of the authority’s keenness to preserve the health and lives of workers, as safety is an important pillar of the authority’s project implementation strategy, and a culture that Ashghal works to disseminate and adhere to it.

For his part, Mike Robinson, Chief Executive Officer of the British Safety Council, congratulated Ashghal on its success in this important number of international safety awards, saying: “The British Safety Council would like to congratulate the Public Works Authority on achieving this important achievement, as this award comes in recognition of its commitment and serious efforts. To maintain the safety of its employees and reduce injuries, accidents, and diseases within the workplace.
