The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) warned about the possibility of severe thunderstorms across several governorates in Oman, including the Muscat Governorate, on April 23, 2023.
According to the CAA, heavy rainfall is expected from 11 AM to 11 PM, and this is the sixth warning to be issued about the same.
The CAA alert indicated a high chance of severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening, particularly in Al Sharqiyah South, Al Sharqiyah North, and some parts of Muscat Governorate. The warning also covers other areas, such as Al Wusta, Al Dakhiliyah, South Al Batinah, and Al Dhahirah Governorates.
As part of the warning, the Civil Aviation Authority urged people to take care during thunderstorms and to take necessary precautions. This includes refraining from crossing valleys, avoiding low-lying areas, and staying away from the sea during the warning period.

Heavy rainfall of 20-70 mm could cause flooding in valleys and reefs.
Strong and active downdraft winds, with speeds ranging between 15 and 50 knots (equivalent to 28-90 km/h).
Low horizontal visibility caused by rising dust when thunderstorms occur.
