The death toll from the severe floods in Bangladesh has reached 71, as of September 4. The floods, caused by relentless monsoon rains and upstream runoff, have impacted around five million people over the past two weeks.
Widespread Destruction and Relief Efforts
Currently, over 580,000 families remain stranded across 11 affected districts, desperately needing food, clean water, medicine, and dry clothing. Relief efforts are underway with nearly 500 medical teams deployed, supported by the army, air force, navy, and border guards.
Health Concerns and Disease Prevention
Authorities are focused on preventing outbreaks of waterborne diseases, which often follow such disasters. The Directorate General of Health Services reported that almost 5,000 people have been hospitalized in the last 24 hours due to diarrhea, skin infections, and snake bites.
Dhaka’s Traffic Nightmare
In the capital, Dhaka, heavy rainfall has submerged roads, creating traffic chaos. Vehicles are struggling through knee-deep to waist-high water, exacerbating the crisis and complicating relief efforts.
The situation remains critical as the country works to address immediate needs and prevent further health issues.
