Residents of Muttrah had a startling Saturday morning as a minor tremor caused household items to rattle, prompting some to rush outside in alarm.

The earthquake, measuring 2.3 on the Richter scale, was recorded at 11:06 AM in the Wilayat of Al Amerat in Muscat Governorate, as confirmed by the Sultan Qaboos University Earthquake Monitoring Centre.

Epicentre Details

The quake’s epicentre was pinpointed approximately 8 km southwest of Muscat city, at a depth of 10 km below the surface. Though the tremor was minor and caused no damage, its impact was lightly felt in surrounding areas, including Muttrah.

"I was sitting at home when the furniture started shaking—it was scary for a moment," one Muttrah resident shared. Others described feeling vibrations but remained calm after confirming no serious threat.
