On the occasion of International Museum Day, which falls on May 18 every year, and which is celebrated this year under the slogan “Museums are power”, we highlight the importance, strength, and presence of private museums in the cultural scene in the State of Qatar.
Among the most important and prominent private museums is the Museum of His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, located in the Al Shahaniya area, and narrates with its precious treasures, chapters of the history of the State of Qatar, passing through regions, civilizations and ancient times, and it occupies an area of about 50 thousand square meters and includes more than 50 thousand rare pieces From 4 continents, and contains more than 17 sections, including the Heritage House, Cars, the Islamic Museum, Fossils, Carpets, the Palestinian House, the Shami House, the Egyptian House, and others.
His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani Museum in Qatar, which is one of the most famous private museums for Islamic art and antiques in the Middle East, said in an exclusive interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA): I inherited my interest in collecting Art pieces and the preservation of our heritage since childhood from my father Sheikh Qassim bin Faisal - may God have mercy on him - who took me to visit many museums and archaeological sites in the Arab Gulf region and all over the world, such as Egypt, Syria, Turkey, Greece and other countries, which contributed to refining my knowledge and increasing my contact in this regard. the world, and even my awareness of the importance of heritage and the necessity of dialogue with it as a major link and focal point that connects individuals to their past and establishes a clear understanding of the future within civilized societies.”
Among the private museums in the State of Qatar is the Abdullah bin Lahdan Al Muhannadi Museum, and it is considered one of the most important landmarks of the city of Al Thakhira, owned by the Qatari researcher Abdullah bin Lahdan Al Muhannadi.
This museum includes different sections, there is the old gate and the way it was designed and built, and then on the south side is the Qatari Majlis, and it includes tables for clerks that were used when the old tambourines. , used by folk singers, drum sets, ashtrays and sprayers, kinds of old telephones, old tapes and televisions, old photos, and other special tools.
Mr. Abdullah Al-Mohannadi (the museum owner) indicated in an interview with Qatar News Agency, QNA, that the museum includes a room that evokes the history and past of the city of Al-Dhakhira and the most important historical figures who left a great legacy for future generations. The museum also includes pictures of poets, narrators, and writers, in addition to the hall devoted to books. The old heritage, magazines, and newspapers, as well as old school tools in addition to the books and school bags used by the students in that beautiful era, as well as a room dedicated to the old building and carpentry materials and tools, and a room dedicated to old children’s games.
