The UAE's Child Protection Law No 3 also known as the Wadeema Law came into effect back in 2016.
The law was named Wadeema in the memory of an eight-year-old Emirati girl who died after she was brutally tortured by her father and another suspect in 2012.
The 12-page document lays out legal rights to protect minors in the UAE from birth to puberty from all forms of abuse including verbal, physical, and psychological.

Wadeem Law ensures rights to education, citizenship and access to health care services, and prohibits child labour, the use of children in any form of pornography and the sale of tobacco to minors under the age of 18. On the other hand, the law offers protection in case of abandonment by parents or guardians, and protection from negligence.
The Community Development Authority in Dubai operates a Child Protection Centre in Al Barsha. Also, residents can call the Ministry of Interior's Child Protection at 116-111, and can also contact the police at 999.
