Fans first noticed that something was off at the premiere on Aug. 6. when Baldoni did not pose with the rest of the cast of the film for photographs.
Netizens did some investigating online and found out that Baldoni has been largely absent from press events and is not followed on social media by the rest of the cast despite being the main lead and the director of the film.
Instead, Blake Lively has been focusing more on her husband Ryan Reynolds' contributions to the film and he has also been part of the film's promotions.

Also, Lively and Jenny Slate (who plays Ryle’s sister Allysa in the film) avoided questions about Baldoni. Fans speculated if Baldoni had behaved poorly on set during the film, but they also wondered if there was a power struggle between him and Lively since the latter is the co-executive producer of the film.
Although, it's all speculation, fans have also been choosing sides between Lively and Baldoni, most of them favoring the latter. Baldoni has spoken about the theme of domestic violence in the film during promotions.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Baldoni said, "Also, if anybody has had that real-life [domestic violence] experience, I can imagine how hard it would be to imagine their experience being in a romance novel...To them, I would just offer that we were very intentional in the making of this movie."
However, the film has been marketed as a light-hearted romantic movie, which Lively is being held accountable for. In a promotional video, Lively says, "Grab your friends, wear your florals and head out to see it," which is being heavily criticized by fans online.
One user commented, "Grab your florals... girl, this movie is about domestic violence."
She is also receiving backlash for promoting her haircare line during the promotions of the 'It Ends With Us', which fans consider insensitive to the subject matter of the film.

After receiving backlash for the promotions, Lively recently posted about domestic violence on her Instagram.
The film has received mixed reactions as well. While social media users have been excitedly sharing their experiences about going to the cinema and watching the film, some users have criticized the film for its inadequate handling of the theme of domestic violence.
