Tunisia’s Firas Katoussi has triumphed at the Paris Olympics, securing the gold medal in the men’s taekwondo welterweight (-80kg) division on Friday.

Katoussi delivered a commanding performance, defeating Iran’s Mehran Barkhordari in two decisive rounds with scores of 4-2 and 5-1.

The victory marks a significant achievement for Katoussi, who has solidified his place among the sport’s elite. Barkhordari, who put up a strong fight, settled for the silver medal.

Bronze medals were awarded to Italy’s Simone Alessio and Denmark’s Edi Hrnic, who both showcased remarkable skill throughout the competition.

Katoussi's gold not only adds to Tunisia’s Olympic legacy but also highlights the growing prominence of taekwondo on the global stage.
