Egypt initially took the lead with a goal from Mahmoud Saber in the 62nd minute. France, despite hitting the post three times, finally equalized with Mateta's goal in the 83rd minute, assisted by Michael Olise. The turning point came when Egypt's Omar Fayed received a second yellow card early in extra time, forcing him off the field. France capitalized on the opportunity, with Mateta scoring again with a powerful header. Olise added a third goal in the second period of extra time to secure the win for France.

Under the guidance of manager Thierry Henry, France has won every game in the tournament. They are aiming to add a second gold medal to their tally, their last being in Los Angeles in 1984. Henry praised his team’s effort, saying, “We have secured a medal now but we have one more step to go to win our first football gold medal after 40 years.”

Egypt will face Morocco in the bronze-medal match in Nantes on Thursday.
