The European Union (EU) announced on Monday, Apr. 22 that the citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries will get a five-year, multiple-entry Schengen visa.

The multiple entry visas will be available for all citizens of the GCC countries. GCC citizens will get to visit Europe multiple times over five years with the same visa.

GCC visa holders will enjoy travel rights similar to visa-free nationals. GCC citizens' passports need to be valid for more than five years to enjoy the benefits of the new visa policy.

The new Schengen visa policy is available for all eligible applicants including first-time travellers.

The new Schengen visa policy for GCC citizens will streamline travel and the move is seen as a potential precursor to a Schengen visa waiver.

The EU has also introduced a new visa policy for Indian citizens, which allows them to obtain multiple-entry visas with longer validity.
