Swifties, where you at? The German city of Gelsenkirchen has temporarily renamed itself "Swiftkirchen" in anticipation of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour concerts on July 17, 18, and 19, 2024.

Fan-Initiated Name Change

The name change, which translates to “Swift’s Church,” was suggested by the Swiftie Aleshanee Westhoff. She proposed it to the city’s mayor and started a petition weeks before Taylor Swift’s concert. Mayor Karin Welge approved the idea, thanking Aleshanee Westhoff for her creative suggestion.

City Welcomes Fans

A new city sign with the name "Swiftkirchen" was later installed within the city’s premises, ready to welcome the thousands of Swifties expected to attend the concerts later this month.
