Oman Sail’s women’s team made waves at the 1st Arab Women’s Sailing Championship, hosted by the Bahrain Maritime Sports Association at Al Jazaeer Beach, Zallaq. Hadeel Al Mushaifri clinched the bronze in the Optimist class, marking an impressive performance for Oman in the championship’s debut edition.

Hadeel secured her spot on the podium with consistent results, finishing just two points shy of silver after earning second and third-place finishes in her final four races. Her teammate, Tarteel Al Hasani, surged to a second-place finish in the penultimate race and won the final race but ended eighth overall after a challenging start. Abeer Al Zakwani came in ninth. The Optimist gold went to Bahrain’s Malak Al Doseri, who dominated with seven first-place finishes, while UAE’s Madiya Al Nayadi took silver.

In the ILCA 6 category, Ibtisam Al Salmi was Oman’s top competitor, placing seventh. Marwa Al Khaifi came 11th and claimed fourth in the Under-18 division. Tunisia’s Ines Gmati claimed gold with an impressive eight wins, followed by Kuwait’s Ameena Shah and Tunisia’s Malak Dardouri. Ines Chellali of Algeria secured Under-18 gold, with Camelia Al Kubaisi from the UAE in second and Bahrain’s Lulwa Al Ali third.

Team leader Sultan AbdulAziz Al Zadjali expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments: “The team showed immense promise, and winning a medal in such a competitive field is a fantastic achievement. We’re proud to represent Oman and look forward to seeing this event grow.”

Bronze medalist Hadeel Al Mushaifri shared, “This was a rewarding experience. Competing and winning bronze while representing Oman has motivated me to keep improving. Oman Sail’s support has been instrumental, and I’m excited to keep pushing forward.”

The event brought together 22 sailors from across the region, showcasing talent from Algeria, Egypt, Kuwait, and more, underscoring the growing significance of women’s sailing in the Arab world.
