Hamad International Airport Named the Best Airport in the World
The prestigious SKYTRAX World Airport Awards 2022 crowned Hamad International Airport (HIA) the "Best Airport in the World" for the second year in a row at the global event Passenger Terminal Expo in Paris, France. For the seventh year in a row, the airport has been named the "Best Airport in the Middle East."
The rankings were determined by passenger satisfaction and votes provided by air travelers across 39 key performance factors for airport services and products, including check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security, immigration, and exit. HIA was named the number one airport in the world, out of 550 others.
"We are thrilled that Qatar's main gateway to the world has once again been named the world's best airport at the SKYTRAX 2022 World Airport Awards," said Engr. Badr Mohammed Al Meer, Chief Operating Officer at Hamad International Airport- marking yet another significant milestone in HIA's history. Thanks to our team and stakeholders' commitment and dedication, our commitment and service quality have remained a benchmark in the aviation sector - as we all look forward to an even brighter year ahead."
The official airport partner of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 has had a strong start to the year, with 7.14 million passengers passing through in the first quarter alone.
HIA added three new passenger destinations, bringing the total number of destinations served to 156, and partnered with more than 36 airline partners.
"We are thrilled to announce that Hamad International Airport has been chosen the World's Best Airport for 2022, repeating their success of 2021," said Edward Plaisted of Skytrax. Our heartfelt congratulations go out to Hamad International Airport's management, workers, and stakeholders, who have all contributed to this milestone for the second year in a row. Despite the fact that airports throughout the world were still affected by the pandemic in 2021, Hamad International Airport served 17.1 million passengers and continued to expand.
We wish Hamad International Airport every success in helping to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 as the Official Airport Partner."
HIA is at the heart of all the ongoing preparations as Qatar prepares to welcome the world for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The airport's Phase A expansion is well underway, with a capacity of approximately 58 million passengers expected. Phase B of the HIA development will begin in early 2023, increasing capacity to approximately 60 million passengers. The two-time SKYTRAX #1 airport guarantees passengers a journey unlike any other, working with FIFA's organizing committee to provide hundreds of thousands of tourists and new visitors with a safe, pleasant, and trouble-free experience.
The HIA's major aim is to provide a safe and comfortable passenger experience, with reduced wait times at all airport touchpoints and the use of cutting-edge technology and automation technologies.
