Indian Film Wins Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival 2024

The Indian film 'All We Imagine as Light' won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival 2024 on Saturday, May 25.
The film is written and directed by Payal Kapadia and it features Indian actors Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam.
The film is about two nurses from Kerala living in Mumbai and it was the first Indian film to participate in the main competition in 30 years.
While receiving the award, Kapadia said, "Please don’t wait another 30 years to have an Indian film."
Malayalam director Shaji N Karun’s 'Swaham' was the last Indian film to participate in the main competition of the Cannes Film Festival in 1994.
The Indian poet and author Anasuya Sengupta also received the Best Actress award for her role in 'The Shameless' at the Un Certain Regard awards ceremony.
Other than Kapadia's film, Iranian director Mohammed Rasoulof's 'The Seed of the Sacred Fig' won the Prix Spécial.

The Egyptian documentary 'The Brink of Dreams' won the Golden Eye Documentary Prize.
The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival was hosted from May 14 to May 25 in France.
