Italian road bicycle racer Diego Ulissi, who rides for UAE Team Emirates, won on Tuesday, February 14th, a penultimate stage of Tour of Oman 2023 with his arms aloft in triumph.
Stage 4 was the longest stage with a 204.9km climb from Izki through Muscat to Yitti Hills. It had an explosive finale in store for the peloton with a couple of ascents in the last 10 km.
Ulissi's teammate, Pascal Ackermann, went on the move on these up and down sections before he was caught with 2km remaining, then Ulissi displayed his power and took victory ahead of Axel Zingle and Ide Schelling.
"I'm delighted with this first victory of the season," Ulissi said after the stage.
"Ackermann's attack softened up the bunch well and we took a great victory. We've started the season well as a team," Ulissi added.
The final challenge awaits the riders today, February 15th, from Al Fayhaa Resthouse in the Wilayat of Samail to Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, where the overall winner of the Tour of Oman will be crowned.
Diego Ulissi claimed the 'Individual Points' award for his stage victory on Tuesday.
Some 18 global teams representing Europe, Asia, America, and Australia are competing in the 12th edition of Tour of Oman, which kicked off on Saturday, February 11th.
