The Khareef Dhofar 2024 season is on track to draw over one million visitors, highlighting the region's increasing allure as a top tourist destination. Running from June 21 for three months, this year's festival promises an array of captivating attractions and activities.
Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsin Al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, emphasized the extensive early preparations made in collaboration with government departments and private sectors to enhance various tourism sites. “Our goal is to offer a unique and memorable experience to all our visitors,” said Dr. Al Ghassani.
Among the key attractions is Awqad Public Park in Salalah, designed for children with international entertainment villages and interactive games. Additionally, Ateen Plain in Salalah will feature 60 sites for entrepreneurs, showcasing modern tourism patterns. The imminent opening of Ateen Square will bring international activities to delight visitors.
One of the standout initiatives this season is the enhancement of displays featuring Omani youth products and the design of 200 kiosks for restaurants and cafes. Significant projects were inaugurated last year, including scenic viewpoints at Wadi Darbat and Hamrir, the seafront of Al Mughsail, and the Ayn Jarziz developments, in collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and Omran Group.
This year, additional projects have been completed in the Wilayat of Rakhyut and at Al Damar beach in the Wilayat of Mirbat.
The popularity of Khareef Dhofar has surged, with 962,000 visitors in 2023, up from 813,000 in 2022. The anticipated influx of over one million visitors this year is expected to generate expenditures exceeding OMR 100 million, underscoring the significant economic impact of the season.
As the Khareef season unfolds, Dhofar stands ready to welcome tourists from around the world, offering a vibrant mix of cultural, recreational, and entrepreneurial activities set against the backdrop of its stunning natural beauty.
