The Municipal Council of Muscat, chaired by Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat, held its fifth meeting of the year on Monday.
Enhancements to Muttrah Corniche and Neighbourhoods
During the meeting, Humaidi announced that the municipality is finalizing detailed plans for the development of Muttrah. These plans include enhancing the corniche and establishing cafés and restaurants in the residential areas.
Upcoming Projects in Muttrah
The Muttrah Square Project is set to begin in the third quarter of this year. This project will feature an iconic arch-shaped bridge over the square by the sea, which won the first edition of the Bilarab bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design. Inspired by the sword of Imam al Salt bin Malik al Kharusi, the structure will provide views of Muttrah’s landmarks and include a mixed-use plaza, a dancing fountain, retail stores, and cafés.
Alleviating Traffic Congestion
To address traffic congestion, a tender has been issued for the construction of a multi-storey car park in Muttrah.
Omran Group’s Waterfront Development
The council also reviewed a statement from Omran Group regarding the Sultan Qaboos Port waterfront development project. Omran is spearheading the redevelopment, which aims to transform Muttrah into a top-tier tourist destination while preserving its historical and architectural heritage.
