Masirah Island has been recognized internationally as the first healthy island in the Middle East Region according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

“The World Health Organization will hand over the certificate of international recognition to the Ministry of Health in an official ceremony that will be held next Sunday on Masirah Island,” Oman's Health Ministry stated.

The ceremony will be hosted under the leadership of H.E. Dr. Hilal bin Ali bin Hilal Al Sabti, Minister of Health, and in the presence of members of the Shura and Municipal Councils, dignitaries, and invitees, as well as His Excellency the Governor of Al Sharqiyah South and His Excellency John Jabbour, the representative of the World Health Organization in the Sultanate of Oman.

Masirah Island is located off the coast of Oman in the southeast and can be reached via ferry from Shannah Port on the coast, south of Wahiba Sands, in one and a half hours. Masirah Island is home to some of Oman's most beautiful beaches and adventurous escapes, and it's also the most serene place to spend a weekend.
