Don't we all like taking a nostalgia trip? Qatarmoments presents a collection of nostalgic childhood memories from the 1990s in Qatar to be relived and treasured.

Al Bandar Restaurant

More memories of growing up in Qatar in the 1990s

The Al Bandar Restaurant, an outward protruding dhow-shaped restaurant located along the Corniche near the modern Sharq Village & Spa, was one of the most structurally different eateries of the period. This restaurant was always a treat to visit because it was well-known for its food and was also photogenic.

Cafeteria by Sheraton Park

Costa Coffee-Corniche, which is currently popular among coffee drinkers seeking a view and a work-friendly environment, was formerly a junk-food hotspot. A restaurant providing fresh juices, snacks, and the good old "chicken burger mix" was constantly bustling with families and hyperactive kids who had worked up an appetite after hours of play on the Corniche.

School notebooks with Qatar map

If one has studied in Qatar, they must have used the traditional "Qatar" notebook with the Qatar map on the back at least once during their scholastic days.

Popsicles

Nothing could compare to the joy of a child enjoying an ice cream cone in the middle of summer in Qatar. Ice lollies in plastic tubes were a popular after-school treat at the time. If this were to melt, it would also become a makeshift beverage. Who else has bitten on the twist-top cover to get it open? The Baboo ice lolly was also a delight on its own.

Lollipops

Every youngster loves candies, but at the time, there was a desire for the cheapest lollipops in neighborhood grocery stores (Baqalah). A blue paintbrush-shaped lollipop that stains your tongue blue or a strawberry-flavored heart is two favorites among today's adults who grew up in the 1990s.

Pop Pop

When a 90s youngster in Doha pulled out a small firecracker like Pop Pop, which created a mini-explosion when flicked on the ground, you could tell they were being mischievous. It is still an object of no reason but pure pleasure that every child has indulged in at least once.

Nido color box set

Do you recall the Nido color box sets that used to come with Nido milk powder as a freebie? Every artsy child's ambition at the time was to have a complete kit with water paints, crayons, chalk, and markers.

Old Qatar National Museum

The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) was previously known as the Qatar National Museum, which was a popular field trip destination for school kids in the 1990s. Behind the simple fort-like construction, there were amazing museum items, like a traditional Qatari princess bed.

Old Wakrah Beach

The historic Wakrah Beach was the furthest out for a weekend beach picnic get-away at the time. A large virgin open beach, in contrast to its contemporary facilities, which looked to be hours away, was a beach excitement destination.

Caravan Restaurant buffet

If there was ever a buffet that every 90s kid would miss from Doha's food scene, it would be Caravan Restaurant's wholesome and hearty international buffet. This was the smorgasbord of its time, whether it was for Eid, a private occasion, or a family gathering. Does anyone else recall their chef slicing the whole turkey that sat in the corner of the buffet on plates?

Dhow rides

Weekend hype in the 1990s was an experience that is now in decline and is largely used for tourist entertainment. Kids and teenagers would look forward to a trip filled with fresh air, splattering water, and a little dancing to the music played on board.
