Oman Declares Public Two-Day Holiday for National Day

As Oman’s National Day holiday draws near, residents are eagerly planning their getaways, sparking a noticeable rise in both local and international travel bookings. Travel agencies report a surge in inquiries as holidaymakers prepare for everything from short domestic trips to international adventures.

Popular International Destinations for Omani Travelers

For those looking to travel abroad, Asian destinations like Malaysia and Thailand remain top choices due to their vibrant culture and scenic offerings. However, lesser-known destinations such as Kazakhstan and Armenia are also catching the attention of adventurous travelers seeking fresh experiences. Known for their rich histories and stunning landscapes, these emerging destinations are quickly becoming favorites among Omani holidaymakers.

Exploring Oman’s Natural Beauty During the Holiday

Back at home, Oman’s cooler winter weather is inspiring many to consider domestic escapes. With the country’s mountains, deserts, and coastlines offering diverse natural beauty, the possibilities for relaxation are endless. Popular spots like Masirah Island, Sur, and Ras al Jinz are seeing a surge in interest, particularly for those looking to unwind in nature. These locations offer peaceful getaways perfect for disconnecting from the everyday hustle.

The Staycation Trend Gains Popularity

For some, the National Day break presents the perfect opportunity for a staycation. Khalid al Balushi, a banker in Muscat, plans to enjoy a local retreat. “I would need at least a week to travel abroad, so I’ll be staying in Oman. I’m looking forward to a relaxing staycation in Sharqiyah Sands. It’s been a while since I connected with nature,” he says. This preference for nearby escapes is a growing trend, with hotels offering special deals to attract those seeking a quick, peaceful break.

Business and Travel: A Delicate Balance

While many Omani residents are planning holidays, the timing of the long weekend can also present challenges. Najeeb C P, a managing director in Muscat, reflects on the balance between work and relaxation. “It’s crucial for my team to recharge and return productive,” he shares. “However, breaks can impact business timelines. This year, I’ll be attending an event in India, representing Oman.” For Najeeb and others, National Day presents a reminder of the importance of teamwork and preparation to ensure business operations run smoothly while employees enjoy a well-deserved break.

Airfare Concerns and the Rise of Budget Travel

As demand for travel increases, rising airfares are causing some hesitation among potential travelers. Samira Nasser explains, “Fares spike during holidays, so planning ahead is ideal. But holiday dates are often confirmed late, making it tough to avoid peak prices.” Despite this challenge, Samira has her sights set on Sri Lanka for the holiday. “It’s close, easy to reach, and visa-friendly. I love the beaches there,” she says.

Domestic Destinations Draw More Visitors

For those staying within Oman, Nizwa, Jabal Akhdar, and Jabal Shams continue to attract visitors seeking a blend of scenic beauty and cultural experiences. Additionally, quick and visa-friendly getaways like Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Egypt are growing in popularity among Omani travelers looking for international destinations that are both convenient and affordable.

Gulf Destinations and Beyond: What’s Trending

According to a senior sales manager at Global Holidays, there has been a noticeable uptick in interest for inbound travel, which tends to be more common for shorter holidays. Popular destinations like Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and Georgia are seeing increasing numbers of inquiries. Additionally, Sreedhu Nair, Director of Sales at Travel Diaries, notes the growing anticipation surrounding the holiday announcement. “Excitement is high following the official announcement,” he says, adding that many families are now favoring local escapes. Gulf destinations like Qatar, as well as Turkey and Cairo, are trending among Oman’s travelers this holiday season.
