The Ministry of Labour has announced new regulations under Ministerial Resolution No 501/2024, updating the list of professions restricted to non-Omani workers. This new resolution revises the previous Ministerial Resolution No 235/2022, expanding the range of jobs reserved for Omani nationals.

Under the updated rules, non-Omani workers will now be barred from roles including computer engineers, systems analysts, and various positions in hotel management and transportation, among others.

The resolution introduces a phased approach for implementing these restrictions:

- From January 1, 2025: Systems analysts and information systems network specialists will be restricted.

- From January 1, 2026: Computer programmers and computer engineers will face new restrictions.

- From January 1, 2027: Restrictions will apply to web designers and operations analysts.

These changes aim to increase job opportunities for Omani nationals in these critical sectors. The Ministry of Labour is advising employers and workers to prepare for these updates accordingly.
