Oman is gearing up for a low-pressure system that is expected to impact the country starting Sunday, lasting through Tuesday.
The weather disturbance is set to bring clouds, rain, and occasional thunderstorms to various regions, with Dhofar and parts of Al Hajar Mountains likely to experience the brunt of the storm.
The Omani General Directorate of Meteorology has forecasted cloud cover and potential rain over Dhofar, Al Wusta governorate, and Al Hajar Mountains, with rains possibly extending to the coastal areas of the Sea of Oman. Thunderstorms are also expected in some regions, increasing the risk of flash floods and gusty winds.
From Sunday to Tuesday, rainfall between 10-30mm is predicted, which could lead to the flow of wadis. Winds will pick up speed, ranging from 28-65 km/h, which may result in unstable objects being moved. Coastal areas can expect moderate sea conditions, with waves reaching up to 2.25 meters along both the Arabian Sea and Sea of Oman coasts.
Residents have been advised to exercise caution, especially during thunderstorms and dust storms caused by downdraft winds, as visibility may drop significantly. The meteorological department has also warned of the potential for hazardous sea conditions throughout the early week.
Tuesday will bring lighter rain, with expected precipitation between 5-15mm, but the risk of strong winds and reduced visibility remains. The authorities urge people to stay informed on weather updates and avoid venturing into affected areas unless necessary.
