In a solemn declaration, the Diwan of the Royal Court in the Sultanate of Oman announced a state of mourning for three days, beginning Saturday, December 16th, 2023, following the passing of His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait.
A statement from the Diwan conveyed the deep sorrow and grief felt by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, who received the news with profound emotion.
The late Emir, recognized as one of the esteemed Arab leaders, dedicated his life to serving the Arab and Islamic nations and contributed significantly to the prosperity and development of Kuwait.
As a mark of respect, official orders have been issued by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, declaring a mourning period with flags to be flown at half-mast throughout Oman. During this period, both government and private sectors will suspend work operations, resuming on Tuesday, December 19th, 2023.
The Sultanate expresses heartfelt condolences and shares the sorrow of the leadership, government, and people of Kuwait in their time of great affliction.
In a poignant reflection on the profound loss, the statement concludes with a prayer for fortitude and solace for the honorable family of the late Emir and the brotherly people of Kuwait.
"To the Almighty Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return," the statement read.
