Oman Makes Huge Leap in Global Peace Index to 48th Place

Oman has made an impressive leap in the latest 2023 edition of the Global Peace Index (GPI), jumping 18 places to rank 48th in the world with a total of 1.794 score.
The 17th edition of the GPI from international think-tank, the Institute of Economics and Peace (IEP) included a total of 163 countries.
Here is a list of the world's 10 most peaceful countries in 2023:
1. Iceland
2. Denmark
3. Ireland
4. New Zealand
5. Austria
6. Singapore
7. Portugal
8. Slovenia
9. Japan
10. Switzerland
Oman's leap is the second largest improvement in the 2023 GPI along with Ivory Coast, just behind Kazakhstan, which improved by 21 places.
Oman is now ranked third in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, as it improved in overall peacefulness. It also improved considerably on the safety and security domain.
Qatar was the most peaceful country in the MENA region, clinching 21st place on the global ranking, remaining the most peaceful country in the region, a position it has held since 2008.
Kuwait was ranked second in the MENA region and 35th globally, while Oman is third, the UAE the fifth, while Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia were ranked ninth and tenth respectively.
