Oman to Hire 4,000 More Teachers in School Year 2025/2026
Government ramps up recruitment to meet rising student numbers and school expansions.

Oman’s education sector is set for a major expansion, with 4,000 new teachers expected to be hired in the 2025/2026 academic year. This move comes as part of the government’s efforts to accommodate the increasing number of students and schools across the country.
During a session at Majlis A’Shura, Minister of Education Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed al Shaibani provided updates on the ministry’s initiatives, including education policies, human resource development, and private school growth. She highlighted the strong government support and Royal Directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik in driving these improvements.
More Schools, More Teachers
The number of students in government schools has surged by 20.5% in just four years, from 678,000 in 2020/2021 to 817,000 in 2024/2025. To meet this demand, the number of government schools will rise to 1,306 by 2025/2026, up from 1,182 in 2020/2021, marking a 10.4% increase.
To support this expansion, teacher recruitment has significantly accelerated. Over 15,000 Omani teachers have been appointed in the first four years of the 10th Five-Year Plan, compared to 6,800 under the previous plan. With the additional 4,000 educators joining in 2025/2026, the total number of new teachers under the current plan will surpass 19,000.
Private Schools on the Rise
The private education sector is also seeing rapid growth. The number of private and international schools, including kindergartens, has increased by 39%, rising from 880 in 2019/2020 to 1,223 in 2024/2025. Student enrollment in private schools has also climbed, reaching 233,000 in 2024/2025, including 96,000 in pre-school education.
With both public and private education expanding, Oman is taking significant steps to enhance its education system and ensure quality learning opportunities for its growing student population.
