Oman "will be launching its own stations to monitor air pollution level" during this quarter of 2023, Head of the Environment Authority, Abdullah Al Omari, told Al Shabiba on Monday in an exclusive statement on the sidelines of "The Oman Environmental Sustainability Conference."
Abdullah Al Omari added that the new stations will be linked with a control room and an operations room that operate around the clock.
He pointed out that Oman has recently completed its national plans for zero neutrality by 2050 to reduce the effects of climate change.
"The Sultanate of Oman paid very early attention to the adaptation issue, and made a lot of efforts, whether in establishing protection dams or feeding dams, as well as fish farming projects or through modern agriculture, in addition to the efforts that have been made in waste management in a modern way," Abdullah Al Omari said.
He also said that there were a lot of legislation and procedures that had been enacted, including the reduction of the use of single-consumer plastic bags, and the protection of biodiversity in various environments.
The Oman Environmental Sustainability Conference, which kicked off on Monday, is first of its kind in Oman and includes many activities focused on air pollution, climate change and other issues.
The event will include the launch of the ‘Green Branch Award’ designed for contributors and supporters of environmental action, emphasizing that protecting the environment is a collective responsibility.
