The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in India has issued a crucial advisory for Omani citizens planning to visit India, emphasizing the importance of securing the correct visa based on the purpose of travel. This comes as a precaution against potential fines and delays associated with overstaying or using the wrong type of visa.
Visa Requirements and Consequences
The Embassy's advisory highlights the need for travelers to carefully choose the appropriate visa—whether for tourism, medical treatment, or study—before traveling to India. It is essential to adhere strictly to the visa's validity period, as indicated on the entry stamp upon arrival.
India’s internal laws are stringent regarding visa violations. The Embassy warned that overstaying a visa or traveling on a visa that does not match the actual purpose of the visit can lead to complications. Specifically, individuals who overstay their visa may be prohibited from leaving India until they secure an exit visa. Obtaining this exit visa can take at least three days and may incur fees exceeding OMR 100.
Avoiding Travel Complications
To avoid these issues, the Embassy advises all Omani travelers to ensure they obtain the correct visa type and respect the duration of stay authorized by Indian authorities. The advisory is a reminder of the importance of following visa regulations to prevent any legal or financial difficulties while in India.
