A SalamAir flight from Chittagong, Bangladesh, headed to Oman, had to make an emergency landing at Nagpur Airport following a medical emergency involving a passenger.
According to Aejaz Shami, General Manager (GM) Communication at KIIMS Kingsway Hospital, the incident involved a 33-year-old passenger named Mohammed Khair, who experienced two seizure episodes during the flight. The crew's quick response led to immediate medical intervention.
Seizure Mid-Flight Prompts Medical Action
Mid-flight, Khair suffered two seizures, with one of the episodes involving frothing at the mouth. The situation required the plane to divert to Nagpur for emergency medical assistance. Upon landing, a medical team from KIIMS Kingsway Hospital, led by Dr. Rupesh Bokade, was immediately dispatched to the aircraft.
Dr. Bokade reported that Khair was conscious, coherent, and orientated when examined. His vital signs were stable, but given the severity of the seizures, further medical attention was deemed necessary.
Quick Transfer for Continued Care
Following the examination, Khair was promptly transferred to KIIMS Kingsway Hospital in Nagpur for further evaluation and treatment. He is currently under the care of Dr. Rupesh Bokade, who is closely monitoring his condition.
GM Shami confirmed that Khair is receiving the necessary medical treatment and is being kept under close observation to ensure his recovery.
The swift actions of the flight crew and medical response team ensured that Mohammed Khair received timely medical care, minimizing potential risks from the seizures. The situation serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness during emergencies and the critical role of medical teams in such situations.
For now, Khair remains in good hands at KIIMS Kingsway Hospital as he continues to recover from the incident.
