Omani companies in the fish marketing and sales sector have officially launched fish exports to China, marking a major milestone in supporting the objectives of Oman’s Vision 2040.

This strategic step aims to enhance profitability, sustainability, and international presence in the fisheries industry, contributing to the broader Omani economy.

Spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, the initiative is part of a push to boost the value and global reach of Omani fish products. Dr. Masoud bin Suleiman Al Azri, Director General of Agricultural and Fisheries Marketing, highlighted that this move follows a formal agreement between Oman and China. The agreement outlines essential inspection, quarantine, and health standards for exporting fish, ensuring Omani products meet China’s stringent requirements.

Dr. Al Azri emphasized that only companies meeting these high standards have been certified for export, with 23 Omani firms already registered and approved. Regular checks will maintain compliance and quality, supporting ongoing competitiveness in the global market.

The move promises stronger trade ties between Oman and China while solidifying Oman’s reputation for top-quality fish exports. In 2023, Oman’s fish production hit 793,000 tonnes, a 6% year-on-year increase, valued at OMR 531 million.

With exports reaching 324,000 tonnes and valued at OMR 189 million, Oman’s reach extended to 84 countries. The Ministry continues to explore new markets, showcasing Omani fish products to a global audience and reinforcing the fisheries sector's international standing.
