Oman's moon sighting committee will hold a meeting tomorrow evening, June 18th, at the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs to sight the crescent of the month of Dhul-Hijjah for the year 1444 AH.
The ministry called on citizens and residents to investigate the sighting of the crescent, and advised everyone who saw the crescent moon to get in touch with the right authority at their governorates.
It's anticipated that on Sunday, the 29th of Dhul Qadah, the crescent moon will be visible, marking the beginning of the month of Dhul Hijjah on Monday, June 19th. Islamic months consist of 29 or 30 days, unlike the Gregorian calendar which typically includes 31 days.
On the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Adha.
Hence, the Arafat Day will be on Tuesday, June 27th, then the first day of Eid al-Adha will fall on Wednesday, June 28th, if the crescent moon is sighted on Sunday.
If, however, the moon cannot be seen, the Arafat Day will fall on Wednesday, June 28th.
