Omani Masirah Island has been internationally recognized as the first healthy island in the Middle East Region, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced.

On June 4th, the Ministry of Health will receive the certificate from the WHO in an official event on Masirah Island.

The ceremony will be held under the auspices of His Excellency Dr. Hilal bin Ali bin Hilal Al-Sabti - Minister of Health, among other officials from the Shura and Municipal Councils.

Masirah Island, also referred to as Mazeira Island or Wilāyat Maṣīrah, is an island off the east coast of mainland Oman in the Arabian Sea, and the largest island of the country.

Being the largest island in Oman as well as the most relaxing destination for a weekend getaway, Masirah Island is filled with stunning beaches and exciting water sports.

Due to the constant wind and cool breeze coming in from the Arabian Sea, this island is referred to as a "paradise for kitesurfers".

The beaches of Masirah are home to four different types of turtles, including 30,000 nesting female turtles.
