Oman’s sprinter Mazoon al Alawi finished seventh in the preliminary heat two of the 100m race at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Friday, marking her third Olympic appearance.
Competing at Stade de France, the 26-year-old clocked in at 12.58 seconds, which was not sufficient to advance to the first round.
Despite her strong efforts, Mazoon fell short of the top four sprinters required to move forward. The race saw Vietnamese runner Tai Nhi Yen securing first place with an impressive time of 11.81 seconds. She was followed by Grenada's Halie Hazard in second place at 11.88 seconds, and Bo Ya Zhang from Chinese Taipei in third, recording 11.99 seconds.
The top three runners from each heat, along with the five best times across all heats, advanced to the first round. Representing the Gulf, UAE’s Mariam Karim participated in the same heat and finished ninth with a time of 13.26 seconds.
Mazoon al Alawi, who holds a personal best of 11.47 seconds in the 100m, could not surpass her previous Olympic records. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, she finished sixth in her preliminary heat with a time of 12.35 seconds, and at the Rio 2016 Olympics, she recorded 12.43 seconds.
The Omani athlete remains a significant figure in the sporting community, and her participation continues to inspire many aspiring athletes.
