You will certainly be happy to hear that we have passed the peak of the sandstorms that recently hit the UAE, but we still have to wait for at least the rest of the week to be completely over, according to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM). Follow this article to learn about the most important causes of sandstorms and how to deal with them next time.

Sandstorm Causes

When we talk about sandstorms, it is necessary to address the causes of these storms. Sandstorms start when strong winds can carry away the dust particles. As the dust gets stronger, the sand particles start to vibrate first, then move across the surface and hit the ground repeatedly, at which point they break up tiny dust particles that then start moving and rising into the air.

There are main factors that cause the disintegration of sand particles and their movement with the wind and the formation of sandstorms, which are prolonged soil drought, arid conditions, absence of vegetation cover, high wind speed, and some wrong agricultural practices, such as intensive plowing of dry lands, and the lack of stable crops.

How to Deal with Sandstorms?

Sand and dust storms can cause a great danger to human health, especially for people with respiratory problems, so when a dust storm comes, you must make sure that all windows and doors are closed tightly so that dusty air cannot enter your home, and we also advise you to turn off air conditioning throughout the storm, as it can suck fine dust into the home and eventually pump that dust into your living room.

With no vision, driving will be risky, which is why drivers are recommended to be vigilant on the roads, follow directions from highway signs, and avoid taking videos.
