Saudi Film 'Norah' Received a Special Mention at Cannes 2024

The first Saudi film to participate in the Cannes Film Festival, 'Norah' received a special mention at the film festival's Un Certain Regard awards on Saturday, May 25.

The film is set in Saudi Arabia during the 1990s and is about Norah and Nader who inspire each other to realize their artistic potential during a time when the professional pursuit of art was condemned in the country. 

'Norah' is directed by Tawfik Al-Zaidi and features Maria Bahrawi, Yaqoub Al-Farhan, and Abdullah Al-Satian.

The Saudi film was screened at the festival on Thursday, May 23 and received a standing ovation. 

'Norah' was supported by the Saudi-based Red Sea Film Foundation's Red Sea Fund. 

The film was entirely shot in Al Ula and northwest Saudi Arabia, featuring an all-Saudi cast and a 40 percent Saudi crew. 

'Norah' made history by becoming the first Saudi film to participate in the Cannes Film Festival and with the special mention, it has made Saudi Arabia proud!
