Oman's Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation issued a directive on Sunday, instructing schools and colleges to transition to distance learning on April 15. This decision comes in response to heavy rainfall and flash floods affecting various parts of the country.

Emergency Weather Situation

The move follows a warning from the National Committee for Emergency Situations Management regarding the escalation of unstable weather conditions in Oman. The Ministry emphasized the need for caution during this period of inclement weather.

Continued Weather Alerts

The Oman Meteorology Department has reported the presence of thunder clouds across multiple governorates, including Muscat, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, Al Dhahirah, and Al Dakhiliyah. The forecast indicates the possibility of continued rainfall of varying intensity in the coming hours.

The Ministry clarified that educational institutions have the autonomy to decide whether to resume regular schooling once the weather situation stabilizes. However, for Monday, April 15, remote learning remains the mandated mode of instruction.
