His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al-Marri, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lusail University, announced the official inauguration of Sorbonne University-Doha on Sunday, June 12, to be the first branch of the prestigious French university in the State of Qatar.

His Excellency said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that Sorbonne University-Doha had started accepting Qatari students last September, and the opening of a branch in Doha at Lusail University came in partnership between the two sides.

His Excellency pointed out that the French Sorbonne University has a long and globally recognized history, and therefore its branch in Doha (Sorbonne University-Doha) within the Lusail University campus will benefit the educational community in Qatar.

Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al-Marri's statements came on the occasion of the Qatari French seminar on French legal education, which was organized by Sorbonne University in Doha in partnership with the Sorbonne University in Paris.

Spoken at the seminar were: His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al-Marri, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lusail University, His Excellency Mr. Jean-Baptiste Favre, Ambassador of the French Republic to the UAE, Mrs. Agnès Robleau Trauzi, Dean of the School of Law at Sorbonne University, and Mr. Thomas Perran, Professor of Private Law and Director of Academic Affairs at Sorbonne University - Doha.

The seminar dealt with topics related to the field of legal sciences, including criminal laws, contract, and corporate law, and arbitration.

In his speech, His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al-Marri, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lusail University, stressed his continuous quest for the success of this unique experience in the State of Qatar, as he was keen to conclude a partnership agreement with the most prestigious international universities in teaching law in French by choosing Paris 1 Pantheon University Sorbonne.

He expressed his hope that Qatari youth will experience this new experience in Doha, which will help them open to the world through mastery of legal sciences as well as the French language, which would benefit the State of Qatar and contribute to achieving its vision of 2030.

For his part, His Excellency Jean-Baptiste Favre, Ambassador of the French Republic in Qatar, said that this experience is exceptional, stressing the need to support it, as it is the first of its kind in the State of Qatar, and considered it a new opportunity to further achieve bilateral and strategic cooperation between the two countries.

For her part, Mrs. Agnes Robleau-Trauzi, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Sorbonne University, said that the academic framework of both universities is determined to move forward toward the success of this unique and exemplary agreement and towards its further advancement and development.

In his turn, Mr. Thomas Biran, Professor of Private Law and Director of Academic Affairs at Sorbonne University-Doha, stressed the conformity of the educational system in Doha and Paris, where students study 3 years to obtain a degree (diploma) in law, which enables them to pursue various professions such as law, judiciary, and diplomatic professions.
