Special Leave Entitlements for Employees in Oman
Here are the special leave options employees in Oman are entitled to.
Both public and private sector employees in Oman are entitled to certain special leave options under the Labor and Social Protect Laws, and here are the special leave options.
Maternity Leave
Female employees can receive 98 days of maternity leave to include the period before and after childbirth, according to Article 84 of the Royal Decree 53/2023 under the Labor Law.
The Ministry of Health has directed medical institutions in Oman to facilitate female employees to receive proof of their entitlement to maternity leave for 98 days.
The male employees are entitled to seven days of paternity leave given that the leave does not exceed the 98th day of the child's age. The male employee also has to obtain proof from the medical institution to receive his paternity leave.
The maternity leave for female employees will cover the period before childbirth based on the doctor's recommendations and the leave for that period should not exceed 14 days.
The remainder of the maternity leave will be granted from the date of childbirth.
Other Reasons for Special Leave
Employees will also be granted special leave for the following reasons:
- Marriage: three days
- Death of father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, brother, or sister: three days
- Death of paternal or maternal aunts and uncles: two days
- Death of wife, son, or daughter: ten days
- Death of husband: 130 days for Muslim women and 14 days for non-Muslim women
- Helping patients with whom you have a marital relationship or kinship up to second degree: 15 days for Omani worker
Hajj
Employees will be granted a special leave of 15 days, provided that the employee has spent one year at his or her job.
Conditions for Special Leave in Oman
Employees are required to submit proof when requesting special leave for any of the above situations.
Violation of the provisions of Article 84 will be penalized with a fine of no less than RO 100 and no more than RO 300.
The penalty will be doubled if the violation is repeated.
