Over 53,000 tourists have visited three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Dhofar Governorate so far this year, with the number of visitors increasing steadily during the current khareef season.
Al Baleed Archaeological Park, an ancient city that was once a major center for the frankincense trade, is the most popular UNESCO World Heritage Site in Dhofar Governorate. It has received a total of 30,181 visitors so far this year.
Khor Rori, also known as the Samharam Archaeological Park, is the second most popular UNESCO World Heritage Site in Dhofar Governorate. It has received a total of 15,820 visitors so far this year. The park is home to a number of ancient tombs and shrines.
Ubar, located at the entrance to the Empty Quarter, is the third most popular UNESCO World Heritage Site in Dhofar Governorate. It has received a total of 7,326 visitors so far this year. The site is of interest to archaeologists due to its potential to shed light on the early history of the region.
The three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Dhofar Governorate have seen a significant increase in visitors so far this year, with the number of visitors more than doubling compared to the same period in 2022. This is a sign of the growing popularity of Oman as a tourist destination. All three sites are important cultural and historical assets for Dhofar Governorate.
