The Suhail star has been sighted in Oman, signaling the end of the peak summer heat and the onset of more moderate weather, according to the Oman Astronomical Society.
In a recent statement, the society highlighted the significance of Suhail's appearance. “The Suhail star is visible across the Sultanate and the Arabian Peninsula, indicating the shift from intense summer heat to cooler, more comfortable temperatures,” the statement noted. The star typically becomes visible around August 24, though its exact timing can vary between the northern and southern parts of the Arabian Peninsula.
Located 313 light years away from Earth, Suhail is a southern star that appears only briefly in the northern skies, depending on the observer's latitude. Historically, it served as a navigational aid for ancient sailors and travelers, pointing towards the south.
The appearance of Suhail has long been associated with the easing of summer’s swelter and the arrival of milder weather. The Suhail season is expected to last for 53 days, bringing relief and a welcome change in climate to the region.
