The citizens of Bahrain are still suffering from pests, along with the recent mosquito outbreak in several areas of the country.
Locals complain that there has been a significant increase in flies, both at their homes and places of employment, which bothers them and produces a negative atmosphere. They don't just cause irritation but they can be potential disease carriers as well.
Piyush Arun, an owner of a fast-food restaurant, said in an interview with The Daily Tribune, "We see a lot of flies, especially in Gudaibiya, and I think that's because people drive away after throwing trash out of their cars It's unhygienic! IPM, in my opinion, should concentrate on preventing or minimizing issues with houseflies to reduce risk to human health, the environment, and possibly pets."
"Sanitation is the finest cultural control strategy. Dead flies should be removed and disposed of since they could be food for other insects that invade homes," he said. A recent study claims that because they frequent sewers, dumps, and trash piles, houseflies are not the cleanest of creatures and are suspected of spreading at least 65 diseases. Among the diseases, they spread include typhoid fever, dysentery, cholera, poliomyelitis, yaws, anthrax, tularemia, leprosy, and tuberculosis.
A new dilemma has arisen for the people of Bahrain: the housefly crisis!
