There is No obligation To Buy Meds From Hospital Pharmacies: NHRA
Bahrain's National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) highlighted that no medical facility could pressure patients to pick up a prescription at on-site pharmacies. Any complaints or inquiries regarding this are encouraged to be shared with the Authority.
Some private hospitals are blamed for forcing patients to buy their prescriptions from their own pharmacies. Patients claim they have little choice because doctors refuse to hand over prescriptions and instead direct patients to their pharmacies.
Businessman Harish A. V. reported to The Daily Tribune that an ophthalmologist at a private hospital in Manama refused to provide him with the reading glasses' power specs. He said, "l wanted to buy the new glasses from another optical shop but the doctor insisted I buy them from the hospital's in-house store which is way more expensive. I asked the doctor for the power of my new glasses but he once again ignored my request and told me to proceed to the store."
Additionally, the authorities confirmed that all pharmaceutical prices were tracked and that they remained constant for all Bahraini pharmacies. The NHRA emphasized that in order to ensure easy access and higher-quality services, the National Health Plan (2016-2025) called for the establishment of national systems for the digital transformation of patient records and prescriptions.
