Top 7 things you should know about Expo2020

Preparations are under full swing for the launch of the much-awaited EXPO 2020 in Dubai. Bringing together participants from over 190 countries, EXPO 2020 will undoubtedly be the biggest event of 2020 and will prove as a turning point for the entire region.

Let’s take a look at the top 7 interesting things you should know about this upcoming  mega-global event in Dubai:

1: In terms of economic impact, EXPO 2020 is the 3rd largest event in UAE just after the Olympic Games & FIFA World Cup.

2: Dubai is all about grandeur - the word “mediocre” is just not within Dubai’s dictionary.  You’ll be surprised to know that the Government of Dubai has built a new city exclusively to host the EXPO 2020, named as Dubai South.

3: The EXPO 2020 site is located close to Al Maktoum International Airport and covers an area of 4.38 square kilometers with four main entry points.

4: The site for the EXPO 2020 is now completely pesticide-free but you’ll be amused to know that during construction, a colony of honey bees was discovered by a courageous construction worker.

The bees, identified as Apis mellifera, are not native to UAE and have been successfully relocated. The site is now 100% pesticide-free, in line with the EXPO 2020 sub-theme of sustainability.

The interesting part is that the visitors to the mega-expo might get an opportunity to try some of the honey produced by the hive.

5: EXPO 2020 is expected to leave a strong impact on Dubai’s tourism sector, welcoming around 25 million visitors from over 190 countries.

6: For those who love volunteering, there’s also a special volunteer program with around 30K volunteers belonging to different age groups, nationalities and cultures.

7: At EXPO 2020, you’ll experience the best in architecture. The centerpoint of the EXPO 2020 is Al Wasl Plaza, a translucent dome which will host exhibitions among waterfalls, fountains, parks & palm-lined courtyards. It took around 140 million man hours of labour to build this masterpiece.
