People in the MENA region will be rejoicing after hearing that Tunisian scientist Moungi Bawendi received the Nobel Prize for Chemistry 2023, along with Louis Brus and Alexei Ekimov.

The three scientists have received the Nobel Prize for their discovery in nanotechnology.

The Nobel Prize for Chemistry 2023 has been awarded to these three scientists for their discovery and development of quantum dots, which are very tiny nanoparticles.

These quantum dots are so small that their properties are determined by quantum phenomena. 

Quantum dots are of great significance to nanotechnology.

These nanoparticles illuminate computer monitors and TV screens based on QLED technology.

In the early 1980s, Alexei Ekimov first succeeded in creating quantum effects in colored glass. 

After some years, Louis Brus became the first scientist in the world to prove size-dependent quantum effects in particles floating freely in a fluid. 

In 1993, Moungi Bawendi revolutionized the chemical production of quantum dots, which resulted in almost perfect quantum dots. 

The judges for the prize shared that the discovery of quantum dots has proven very beneficial for humankind, all because of these three scientists. 

Quantum dots can contribute to greater advancements in the future such as flexible electronics, tiny sensors, and thinner solar cells. 

Moungi Bawendi is very honored to receive the prize.

Bawendi was born in Paris and has spent in life in France, Tunisia, and the US. 

He became a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1996. 

Moungi Bawendi has become a source of pride for the MENA region with this achievement.
