Twitter's Chief Executive Elon Musk has announced that the microblogging application will soon have video and voice calling features as well as encrypted messaging.

Twitter users will be able to have a voice or video call, through their Twitter handle, with any user on the platform without having the latter's phone number.

Musk made the announcement in a tweet on Twitter.

The call feature will make Twitter more similar to other social media apps like Facebook and Instagram.

Musk also shared that the feature of encrypted direct messages would be available to users on Wednesday, May 10th. However, he did not clarify if calls would be encrypted.

Twitter has also announced that it will remove and archive accounts that have been inactive for several years.
