Desert Masterpiece: Saudi Arabia and Oman's Highway Triumph

Saudi authorities are buzzing about the new highway connecting the kingdom to Oman, calling it an engineering masterpiece. This 564km road through the Rub Al-Khali desert isn't just a highway; it's a symbol of Gulf cooperation and progress.

Built with over 1.3 million work hours and 750 pieces of heavy-duty equipment, this project faced down the harsh desert environment. Phase One covered 319km to the Shaybah oil field, and Phase Two stretched another 246km to the Oman border.

Safety was a top priority, with 30km of night lighting, 12 million sq m of road markings, and reflective markers. Plus, there are rest stops for both trucks and cars.

"This highway is a game-changer for trade and tourism between Saudi Arabia and Oman," officials said. It also supports the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, positioning Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub.
