Masked Israeli settlers attacked Hamdan Ballal, Oscar-winning Palestinian co-director of 'No Other Land', on Monday, Mar. 24, in his village Susiya in the occupied West Bank.
There were more than a dozen settlers, and some were armed when they attacked Ballal. However, Israeli forces arrested Ballal along with two other Palestinians. Ballal was arrested when he was in an ambulance receiving medical treatment after the attack.
Ballal and two other individuals were held at the Kiryat Arba police station.
The co-director and Israeli journalist, Yuval Abraham, revealed that Ballal had suffered injuries on his head and to his stomach during the attack.
Ballal and his Palestinian co-director, Basel Adra, live in the Masafer Yatta. Their documentary shows the area's Palestinian residents struggling endlessly to stop Israeli military forces from demolishing their village, highlighting military and settler violence against Palestinians.
The attack and arrest of Ballal followed the killing of two Palestinian journalists, Hossam Shabat and Mohammad Mansour, and several others in Gaza on Monday.
