The rulers across the UAE have pardoned over 1,400 prisoners in the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, this gesture was to raise burdens and help reunite the people with their families.

The UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has ordered the release of 540 inmates from correctional and penal facilities ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has declared the release of 659 inmates from the correctional and penal facilities in Dubai ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, agreed to cut short the sentences of 210 inmates in Sharjah.

Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, also pardoned 345 prisoners in the emirate.

On this occasion, Chancellor Essam Issa Al Humaidan, Attorney General of Dubai, said that Sheikh Mohammed’s order to pardon the prisoners is an opportunity for them to start a new life and is aimed at alleviating their families’ hardship and lifting the burden, as well as giving them the opportunity to reintegrate themselves into society.

Al Humaidan added that the Public Prosecution has begun coordinating with the General Command of the Dubai Police to implement the amnesty order and release the inmates so they can join their families as soon as possible for the holy month of Ramadan.
